Creation of new effective display cabinets for trade requires a search of individual, non-standard and customized solutions for the product group. Such solutions are almost impossible to find in standardized supermarkets’ networks, because the standards are based on the availability of technological solutions of manufacturers, and mostly they are «like everyone else» and do not differ from each other. Interesting solution could be found in the markets.

TENDENCY IN UKRAINE

While visiting markets I came to the following conclusions about their design features:

  • Design of retail department should have a unit structure, including the form and decoration of the ceiling, back wall, advertising signs and lighting. The concentration of these solutions in one place gives the opportunity to present the product most efficiently.
  • Trading points strictly categorize products. They prevent from dissipating buyer's attention as well as «mixing» items from different product groups in the same space. Here the principle of «I-can-sell-even-more» is not appropriate.
  • All sellers are working on the podium on which the display cabinets are installed. Their demonstration area should be as close to the customer as possible. This imposes a constructive mark on refrigeration equipment. In such equipment the additional storage chamber should be on the customer’s side
  • The trade zones are disposed as the small islands. This maximizes comfort of the customers’ movement throughout the market space.
  • The main idea of the market is based on the individuality of products we chose, their freshness and quality rather than on the low price of products.

 

TUNISIA

Tunisia - is an African country with population of 11 million people. In 2011 there was a revolution which led to the change of regime from dictatorship to democracy. This country is located nearby Italy and tries to develop in democratic European way.

Medina in Tunisia
The main feature of medina – «Since you have fish, you do not need to think how to decorate it». As a resident of marine city, I can say with a confidence that almost all fish in our markets is imported: either it is freshwater fish, or frozen-and-thawed fish. The market on the pictures is poor and not attractive from constructional point of view. They are more interesting to gourmands rather that designers. They show such the plenitude of fresh fish that I’ve never seen before.
