KAIZEN: A key to success of Japanese companies

     Tatiana Cherniavskaya
Head of the Project "7th Heaven",
scientific consultant of «Aisberg» Ltd
Ph.D., associate professor of OSEU

     The project "7 th Heaven" (system of improvement of the product quality through the involvement of staff in continuous improvement) was launched in March 2006.
     The 5th year its inspirer is Oleg Antonenko and its director is Tatiana Cherniavskaya. Employees of the company actively participate in specific activities of the Project: round table discussions on improving the interaction between services, Open Day of the company – The Children holiday, Corporate University, the Forum "Effective trade technologies", Corporate magazine "7/8", etc

      The project is based on the Japanese concept of Kaizen, which includes continuous improvement and people respect. Continuous improvement encourages people to continuous learning and creates an atmosphere that is not only conducive to changes, but makes them natural and necessary. Respect for people is expressed with the fact that the company provides them with secure employment, opportunity for everyone to express themselves, find their place in the team and encourages everyone to strive to achieve better results.

    To implement the strategy of "quality at the first place" we apply the following principles:
  • creating additional value for the consumer
  • correct process gives correct results
  • increase the value of the organization through the development of staff and partners
  • permanent solution of key problems encourages continuous learning.

      The purpose of the project is to improve product quality through the involvement of all employees in improving processes of production, management and development. To achieve this goal managers of the company support the initiative of employees to identify problems and their solution, eliminating activities that are wasteful, maintaining cleanliness and order, eliminate waste and conserve materials, improve relationships and teambuilding. The development of initiatives of concerned staff contributes to our new achievements, as well as a sense of joy moving forward, which should have both people and organizations to develop and win.
      Project objectives are improving relationships in the enterprise, training and staff development, improving internal management. Effective methods for solving these problems is the ongoing work on the key issues, which stimulates learning throughout the organization and educates leaders who thoroughly know their business, practice the philosophy of the company, can teach others and encourage people to think and to support the idea of perfection.
      Kaizen philosophy assumes that our life in general (occupational, public and private) should be focused on continuous improvement. Acknowledging that problems do exist and that they can be resolved, we are making the first step to make change for the better. In Aisberg everyone has an opportunity to make the discussion and in collaboration with colleagues to solve the problems arrived. In business the problem is all that causes inconvenience to those who are further in the chain of business processes, either the employee following the next operation or the final consumer. Our customers should receive the products they need at the right volume, right quality and right time. To do this, all employees should do their job well, making sure that their colleagues and clients feel satisfied.
      Corporate University was created in our company to bring up thoughtful staff and to develop leadership in managers. 50 top and middle managers, leading specialists of Aisberg participated in the workshop on Strategic Marketing "In business as in war".

      In spring 2008 when we have been developing a corporate university, it was impossible to assume that the global economic crisis will cover all aspects of the company life and each employee separately and that the enthusiasm, commitment and creative energy would be required for each, constantly and everywhere. Today our caring, actively involved in the reorganization of our life members, led by the head reformer leaders, overcomes all the vicissitudes of the crisis period and is moving towards more effective quality management.
      The corporate holidays promote the teambuilding:

     20-th birthday of the Company "Journey to the intertemporal spaceship"

     Greeting the staff with holidays dates (national holidays, teams birthdays, the birth of children, anniversaries of employees)

     With respect and love all the men of Aisberg were congratulated by its women on February 23rd.

     Women of Aisberg were congratulated by its knights on March 8th.

     collective travels (Uman, Czech Republic), the corporate magazine "7/8", which are thought out and are being put through the talents and indomitable energy of our dedicated staff.

      The high morale of our employees enhances the quality of products at all manufacturing processes. Learning people who understand each other can create a highly efficient technique.

    We have done a lot:
  • improved production;
  • mastered and implemented advanced manufacturing technologies;
  • developed new export markets;
  • created an atmosphere of partnership between departments, management, staff, and microclimate conducive for productive work.

      Company Aisberg is distinguished by close-knit team of high professionalism and a team of reformers, which is the epicentre of new ideas and changes. In this transformation the project "7th Heaven" has its own contribution.
      Further development of the project is seen in the direction of the involvement of all employees into the process of improvement.
